4 South African weightlifters namely Portia Vries, Babalwa Ndleleni, Mona Pretorius and Jean Greeff  together with the National Coach Aveenash Pandoo attended a successful training camp in Hungary at the Olympic Training Centre in Tata from the 3-13 May 2010.

The training camp was held in view of the preparation for the Women's Grand Prix 14-17 May, Ohrdruf Germany, and the Junior World Championships to be held in June Bulgaria. More info on the World Junior will be made available at a later stage.

A successful Talented training camp was just concluded in the Starnd at the Weightlifting Headquarters where a number of personal bests were achieved by the Lifters. Outstanding lifters at the Training were Shelton Clarke where he increased his previous total of the African Youth Champs, Mninikhaya Ngwele in the 69 kg category jerking 130 kg reaching a 10 kg improvement,and Kermit Tieties reaching 115 kg in the clean and Jerk.

The African Weightlifting Federation has accorded us the honor to organize the African Junior & Youth Weightlifting Championships 2010 to be held in Cairo, Egypt on 20-27 March, 2010.

On behalf of Egypt, it is our great pleasure to invite you to participate in the above-mentioned Championships.

Egypt, commonly known as “The Motherland of the World”, “Land of Civilizations” and “The Greatest Power in Human History”, is reputed worldwide for its distinct 7,000-year-old record of civilization and immense wealth of knowledge.

Cairo - the Triumphant City - is the glorious capital of Egypt, the cradle of civilization and the beacon of religion. It is the largest city in the Middle East and Africa and lies at the centre of all routes that lead to and from Asia, Africa and Europe. 

Cairo was founded on July 16, 969 AD by the Fatimid leader Jawhar Al-Sequilli, by an order from the Fatimid Khalif Al-Mo’iz lideenellah. It was named "the city of the 1000 minarets.
